Multi-Skilled Engineer
Location: Middleton, Greater Manchester
Salary: £44,000
Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
My client, a well-established manufacturing company, is looking to recruit a Multi-Skilled Engineer to join their on-site engineering team. This is a great opportunity to work within a fast-paced production environment, supporting operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
You will report directly to the Engineering Team Leader and Engineering Manager, playing a key role in maintaining and improving plant performance.
Working Hours
Rotating shifts:
6:00am - 2:30pm
1:30pm - 10:00pm
30-minute unpaid lunch break daily
On-call rota required (10:00pm - 1:00am when on late shift) Key Responsibilities
Fault finding and repair of both on-line breakdowns and off-line equipment
Carry out timely repairs to plant and machinery, escalating issues where necessary
Conduct daily inspections (guarding, air, steam, water leaks) and complete repairs
Perform weekly environmental inspections and testing
Deliver planned preventative maintenance across:
Conveyors
Press machinery
Laundry machinery
Steam and fluid systems
Pneumatics and hydraulics
Support continuous improvement through modifications and efficiency upgrades
Install and relocate machinery, including power and utility connections
Carry out general mechanical fitting duties (bearings, belts, couplings, etc.) Skills & Experience Required
Experience working with:
Low-voltage and 3-phase electrical systems
Motor starters, inverters, and DC systems
PLC fault finding (ideally Allen Bradley and Siemens S7/Logo)
Electrical qualification (ONC / City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent)
Must hold 18th Edition certification
Experience with steam, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Strong fault-finding capability across electrical and mechanical systems
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals Desirable:
Inspect & Test qualification
Welding and pipework experience
Basic machining skills
PCB fault finding and repair
Experience with AC/DC drives and inverter controls About You
Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
Background in FMCG, paper, or textile industries would be advantageous
Strong understanding of preventative maintenance techniques
Able to work safely with electrical and mechanical isolation procedures
High standards of housekeeping and organisation
Proactive, solution-focused mindset with the ability to work under pressure
