United Infrastructure is a dynamic and rapidly expanding business focused on delivering critical infrastructure projects across the utility and social infrastructure sectors.
Due to recent contract wins, United Infrastructure are currently looking for an experienced Design Coordinator to join us in London.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Design Manager in coordinating the consultant team in developing detailed design and ensuring compliance with United Infrastructure requirements and regulations, achieving necessary approvals and enabling project commencement in line with agreed programmes.
* Coordinate technical and design processes, design teams and subcontractors throughout detail design, procurement and construction, monitoring progress to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
* Technical design coordination of schemes in accordance with agreed programme, ensuring company targets are met, maximizing revenue by quality, cost‑effectiveness, and buildability of the design.
* Assist Design Manager with reviewing consultants’ detailed design drawings and subcontractor designs.
* Coordinate consultants and their deliverables to drive high standards.
* Ensure designs comply with Company’s standards and promote design that respects budgetary constraints.
* Provide support to Design Manager on job running.
* Ensure fully complete, correct and coordinated packages issued to Commercial and Construction teams.
* Maintain and deliver in accordance with Company values.
* Manage subcontractor and supplier design approvals ensuring timely turnaround.
* Monitor subcontractor design approvals and keep an updated approvals schedule in line with build programme.
* Manage flow of information to Commercial, Operations and Client.
* Update and coordinate monthly design schedules.
* Review and coordinate design and technical related issues with Commercial and Operations teams.
* Manage change control process for variations relating to drawing revisions, construction programmes and costs.
* Monitor and obtain all critical certificates to ensure documentation is in place for completion and handovers.
* Collate all required information and liaise with Planning Authorities and Building Control for submissions and necessary approvals.
* Ensure all documents are correctly available for the Document Controller.
* Manage processing of information through workflows on the document management system.
* Ensure current drawings are filed in order and design information exchange follows company protocol.
* Undertake site visits as required; attend site meetings and monthly/weekly project meetings.
* Serve as principal design and technical contact during construction works, monitoring execution to ensure compliance with benchmarks and design specifications.
* Manage, investigate and respond promptly with full close‑out to RFIs from site team and subcontractors.
* Review and advise on corrective measures for identified design issues.
* Compile H&S files and O&M manuals.
* Comply with company policies, procedures and instructions; comply with group’s health, safety and environmental policy.
Essential Qualifications
* Thorough with a pro‑active management style; ability to prioritise, motivate and influence others to meet objectives.
* Analytical approach to work with eye for detail.
* Leadership skills: decisive, flexible, good time management, organised, effective, works well under pressure and to strict deadlines.
* Ability to review drawings and identify buildability and technical issues.
* Project and process management experience; problem solving and decision making.
* Design delivery and risk assessment capabilities.
* Effective communication with all levels of management and project teams, internal and external.
* Proven track record of design coordination.
* Minimum relevant Level 4 qualification (HNC/NVQ4 etc.).
* Up‑to‑date construction industry knowledge, including legislation and procedures.
* Valid driving licence.
* Knowledge of methodology and sequencing process in delivering a construction project including design and pre‑construction activities.
* Relevant Design and Build experience.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
* Passionate about construction and customer satisfaction, focus on high standards and excellence.
* Proven track record of design requirements for procurement and construction purposes.
* In‑depth knowledge of contractual requirements, section agreements and utility application process.
* Tenacious and driven.
* Strong practical knowledge of construction work types, methods and design solutions.
* Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit).
* Knowledge and understanding of BIM.
* Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, CIAT, or RICS).
* Experience of Building Safety Act relevant works.
* Experience of retrofit works.
