Design & Technology Technician – Braintree, Essex
Salary: £25,183 – £27,269 per annum (SCP 6–11) | Pro Rata: £23,120.64 – £25,035.81
Contract Type: Support Staff (Permanent) | Term Time Only + 2 Weeks (42 working weeks)
Hours: 36 hours per week

Our client, a high-achieving and heavily oversubscribed mixed secondary school based in Braintree, is seeking a committed and experienced Design and Technology Technician to join their dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of outstanding DT education in a thriving and well-resourced learning environment.
The Role:
As the DT Technician, you will support the Design & Technology department by preparing materials and resources, maintaining workshop equipment, and ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for practical learning. Working closely with teaching staff and students, you will help facilitate hands-on experiences that develop creativity, innovation, and technical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare tools, equipment and materials for DT lessons
Support practical sessions across areas such as Resistant Materials, Graphics, Product Design, and Food Technology
Maintain, clean and store equipment in line with health and safety standards
Ensure a safe working environment by carrying out regular risk assessments and equipment checks
Provide technical support to students during practical lessons
Contribute to displays, exhibitions, and the wider DT curriculum
The Ideal Candidate:
Previous experience in a similar technician role within a school or workshop environment
Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements in a DT setting
Skilled in using and maintaining DT machinery and tools
Organised, proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team
Enthusiastic about supporting young people in their learning
