Job Summary

This position is temporary. Salary will be be pro-rated for part-time and term-time hours.
Work Pattern: Wednesday to Friday, 15 hrs (9 am - 2 pm)
During the school term, you will assist the teacher with non-teaching duties such as administration, supervising pupils, preparing teaching materials, and supporting learning under the guidance of the class teacher. You will also support children and young people with additional support needs, providing a range of supports tailored to individual and group requirements.
Literate, numerate, with excellent interpersonal skills, you should demonstrate a strong ability to relate to children, developed through experience in controlled environments. Creativity, motivation, initiative, and highly attuned IT skills are desirable. Excellent literacy and communication skills are essential for this role.
You should have a nurturing and personable manner, with a proven ability to establish positive relationships. Experience working with children and young people with barriers to learning, challenging behavior, and additional support needs, along with an interest in their development, is advantageous.
You may be required to supervise pupils outside the classroom, such as in the playground, corridors, dining area, during PE, and organized educational trips, to support the teacher.
A relevant qualification in childcare or similar, such as NCFE Initial Training for Classroom Assistants, NVQ Teaching Assistants Level 2 or 3, HNC in Childcare and Education, or any degree-level education, is desirable.
PVG / Disclosure Scotland
All roles within East Dunbartonshire Council require PVG/Disclosure checks where applicable. Successful candidates for Regulated Roles under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check before employment is confirmed. The cost of the check will be deducted from the first salary payment, possibly in installments. If employment ends before full deduction, the remaining amount will be deducted from the final salary.
