Overview
The Grade II Listed Regent Theatre is the largest theatre in East Anglia with seating for 1551 people. It presents an engaging programme of concerts, gigs, West End musicals, comedy, and an annual traditional family pantomime. The historic Corn Exchange is part of Ipswich’s Town Hall and when used as a theatre has adaptable seating for 800. The venue presents a very wide variety of events, with everything from concerts and conferences to wrestling and darts. Ipswich Borough Council is looking for a creative, reliable, and versatile Theatre Technician to join our technical team supporting live events at the Regent Theatre and Corn Exchange in Ipswich.
You’ll play a key role in delivering a wide range of performances, from largescale touring musicals and headline acts at the Regent, to community shows, private hires, and corporate events at the Corn Exchange. You’ll also support external events across the wider service area.
Responsibilities
* Support live events at the Regent Theatre and Corn Exchange, including front of house and backstage activities
* Lead technical setups and supervise junior staff and casual crew
* Diagnose and resolve technical issues under pressure
* Maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service
* Communicate clearly with visiting companies, internal teams, and contractors
* Work evenings, weekends, and physically demanding shifts
* Contribute to the delivery of a wide range of performances from touring productions to community shows
Qualifications
* Solid experience in a busy theatre or multi-purpose venue
* Confidence with lighting, sound, AV, flying systems, and stage management
* Ability to lead technical setups and supervise junior staff
* Proactive in diagnosing and resolving technical issues
* High standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service
* Clear communication with visiting companies, internal teams, and contractors
* Holds A-level standard or equivalent experience in a technically related profession

Hours: 37 per week, including some weekends. You will be required to work a rota, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
