Job overview

The Royal London Hospital is the tertiary Neurosciences and Major Trauma centre for North East London and Essex. It is a specialist centre for Stroke and home to one of eight designated hyper-acute stroke units (HASUs) in London. Barts Health also has been awarded Tessa Jowell accreditation in brain tumour treatment with a strong focus on quality of life.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for innovative and motivated Physiotherapists to join our Band 7 Neuro-Physiotherapy rotation through the below areas of specialism:

•Hyper Acute Stroke unit and Acute Stroke Unit (HASU/ASU)

•Neuro Trauma / Neurosciences including Neuromuscular & Motor Neuron Disease

•Neuro Trauma / Neurosciences including Neuro-oncology

•Rapid Access to Acute Rehabilitation Unit (RAAR) – Level 1 equivalent rehabilitation

This rotation will give you the opportunity to work as a highly specialised physiotherapist as part of the wider multidisciplinary team to provide a seamless integrated model of care and rehabilitation in line with our WeCare values and behaviours.

You will support and be supported by your Clinical Lead and fellow Band 7 staff as well as providing leadership and supervision to other members of the team. You will engage in regular supervision, education and training that address your learning and development needs including supportive appraisal conversations.

Main duties of the job

This Band 7 physiotherapy post comprises of 12-15 month rotations through the below areas of specialism:

•Hyper Acute Stroke unit and Acute Stroke Unit (HASU/ASU)

•Neurosciences including Neuromuscular & Motor Neuron Disease

•Neurosciences including Neuro-oncology

•Major Trauma Rapid Access to Acute Rehabilitation Unit (RAAR)

Note: Rotational length and area of specialism may be subject to change depending on service need across Therapies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Degree/Equivalent in
2. HCPC registered
3. Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable criteria

4. Evidence of relevant postgraduate education to a master’s level
5. MCSP
6. Member ACPIN

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Experience of working within inpatient, outpatient and
8. Extensive post graduate experience in the field of neuro physiotherapy and acute rehabilitation
9. Respiratory competent
10. Experience of supervising staff
11. Clinical experience within the NHS
12. Experience of clinical audit/QI/ Service improvement
13. Experience of project completion
14. Experience of training and developing staff
15. Evidence of teaching/presentation skills to all grades of staff
16. Experience in service evaluation and service development
17. Team leadership experience
18. Experience of managing patients with tracheostomies

Desirable criteria

19. Previous participation in research
20. Experience in a Level 1 or Level 2 neuro-rehabilitation unit

Skills

Essential criteria

21. Able to work in a multicultural environment
22. Participation in the weekend rota and respiratory on call rota
23. Participation in 7-day working including weekends and bank holidays
