ROLE DESCRIPTION
Alide Hire Services is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Business Development Manager to support the continued growth of our sales function. The role will focus on developing new customer relationships, reactivating unmanaged and dormant accounts, and delivering sustainable new business wins. This is a key appointment within the business, targeted with achieving £750,000 of profitable revenue growth across the network, in line with company rate card and pricing policy.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented professional. The ideal candidate will have:
* Proven Sales/Business Development Experience – Minimum three years’ experience working in a field sales role.
* Industry Experience – Ideally the successful candidate will have experience within the construction/hire industry, but this is not essential. A keen understanding of the construction market in the South West would be a huge benefit.
* Achievement – A demonstrable track record in exceeding sales targets and generating revenue growth by maximising opportunities from existing customers and winning new business is a must.
* Attitude - A great relationship builder with exceptional communication skills and the ability to engage with both customers and colleagues at all levels is a key to success.
* Commercially Minded - An effective negotiator and problem solver with the ability to work independently and prioritise accordingly.
* Strong Communication & Negotiation Skills – Confidence in speaking to customers by phone and email at all levels
* Resilient & Initiative-taking – Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, managing competing priorities and maintaining momentum on new and incremental revenue growth.
* Strong Team Collaboration – Works closely with depot teams, operations, and accounts colleagues to resolve issues quickly and support smooth hire operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Sales - Field sales position selling our range of Tools, Toilets, Plant, Powered Access and Training services into the local construction market.
* Business Development – A steady flow of excellent quality leads will be provided. These will come from new account customers and unmanaged accounts.
* Customer Mix - Customer base makes up 60% Building Contractors, 30% Groundworks/Civils and 10% mixed trades.
* Relationship Management - Developing effective multi-level relationships internally and externally. Using a mature, organised & consultative approach to selling.
* Rate Per Day - Comfortable selling on service and added value rather than on price alone.
* Dedicated - Ensures all customer requests, enquiries and queries are dealt with in an efficient, personable and professional manner.
* Communication - Demonstrate effective communication skills when dealing with both customers and Alide employees.
* Integrity - Deliver an excellent customer experience, both internal and external, in line with the Alide Hire Services Company values.
* IT Literate - Operate with a high level of IT Literacy – especially Word, Excel and Outlook – with the ability to learn and adapt to new computer systems efficiently.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Target – The successful BDM will be responsible for over £750,000 in incremental and new business revenue each year in line with company policy on pricing and discounts.
* Cross-Department Communication – Work closely with depot teams, sales, and accounts colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach to customer on boarding.
* Customer Interaction & Professionalism – Maintain a calm, professional, and confident manner in all customer communications, even in challenging situations.
* Technical Proficiency – Demonstrate strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and company hire and rental management software to manage accounts efficiently.
