Our principal consultant Robin Thomas is searching for an experienced Test Design Engineer who is logically minded and has an aptitude for fault finding.
We have a fantastic opportunity for the right individual to join a highly accredited and well-established ESD test centre, which, as they continue to grow, plans to become a centre of excellence for ESD testing.
As a Test Design Engineer, you will design, develop, implement, and analyze ESD and Latch-up tests to fulfill customer order commitments in a timely, accurate manner, aligned with the company's vision.
You will be involved in various stages of the customer's purchase lifecycle, including Design for Test, Test Program Development, Testing, and Order Fulfillment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Interpret and reorganize semiconductor device pinlist data and package outline drawings to construct test programs for ESD and Latch-up testing, liaising with the customer as necessary to clarify testing requirements.
* Design hardware for ESD and Latch-up testing, such as specialist power supplies or test fixture PCBs.
* Develop automated test programs for ESD and Latch-up testing, ensuring powered-up tests are run with devices in a stable state.
* Create and implement I-V curve tracing programs for ESD and Latch-up testing, ensuring curves are stable before stress tests commence.
* Conduct ESD and Latch-up testing, following policies for the safe handling of devices under test at all times.
* Discuss initial test results with customers to agree on next steps, especially when deviations from expected results occur.
* Prepare and upload summary test reports and detailed data for discussion and analysis with the customer.
* Recommend additional testing to debug customer results and provide insights for device re-spin revisions.
* Attend ESD committee meetings periodically to ensure testing standards evolve and remain aligned with the business.
* Collaborate with the Technical Director and team on development projects.
* Develop new test methods and additional tests to generate new revenue streams.
Skills & Experience
* 2:1 or higher honours degree in electrical/electronic engineering or related field.
* Minimum GCSE Grade A in Mathematics and Grade B at A Level.
* Strong numeracy and mental mathematics skills.
* At least 1 year experience in electronic circuit design, including debugging.
* At least 1 year experience in a commercial environment, preferably related to electronic engineering, production, or testing.
* Customer-facing experience in a professional setting.
* Exposure to ISO certified or accredited Quality Systems.
* Familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment, including automated testers, power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes.
* Strong fault-finding skills and logical problem-solving abilities.
* Proficiency with PCs and MS Office applications.
* Practical orientation with good eyesight, manual dexterity, and static control awareness.
* Resourcefulness and ability to work independently.
* Attention to detail and procedural compliance.
* Quick learner with a desire for greater responsibility.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses.
* Experience with multi-layer PCB design software is desirable.
