WithintheTrustwearepartofSurgeryCareGroup,whichincludesmostsurgicalspecialties. We have a Clinical Director responsible for the Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Caredirectorate (TACC) across the Trust supported by Lead Clinicians for Intensive Care,Pain,AnaestheticsandTheatres.
Surgicalservices arelocatedprincipallyattwoacutehospitals,Yorkand Scarborough. AtScarborough Hospitalsurgical services are supported by a brand new Urgent Care Centre including both HDU and ITU capacity. The maintheatre suite comprises five theatres, in addition to which there is a separate maternity theatre. Elective surgical services at Scarborough currently include: general surgery (including emergencies),trauma,gynaecology,ENT,maxillo-facial,oralsurgery,ophthalmology and urology. We now also have a successful and expanding day unit to support this .
It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a consultant inanaesthesia based at either York or Scarborough Hospital.There is a requirement toprovide cross site -working in line with current patterns within the department to supportrobust and sustainable provision of workforce in anaesthesia. Currently, all of theConsultantprovides cross-siteworkincludingon-call.
Thepostsareinitiallycontractedfor 10programmedactivitiesper week.
ThedemandsoftheAnaestheticdepartmentmeanthatcloseandongoingcollaborationwith consultant colleagues is required. A degree of mutual two-way flexibility insessionalprovisionis anticipated.

Individual job plans will be discussed and finalised with the Lead Clinician and Clinical Director on appointment and will become operational on commencement. All job plans are agreed in line with the Trust’s Job Planning Principles. Job plans will be reviewed annually in line with appraisals. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s typical working pattern, duties and responsibilities. It will cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities, and external commitments.
