Support Worker
Job Type: Part-time/Sessional
Pay: £12.60-£13.50 per hour
Crossroads Lewis provides weekly respite support to unpaid carers in the community. Working hours are flexible and average between 6-10 hours per week. Support Workers have regular working patterns with the same clients each week and may be contacted for holiday and absence cover. Flexibility and availability are significant factors.
Location: Primarily in the Service User’s home and involves travelling to other areas in Lewis. Driving license and use of a car are essential.
Job Purpose:
The Support Worker is employed to provide personal care as required, assistance with daily living and support to service users, as normally provided by a family carer. To relieve carers of their caring duties so that they:
1. Do not become exhausted through the constant demands and stress of caring.
2. Can attend to necessary tasks e.g. shopping, personal business, appointments, socialise, pursue a hobby, leisure activity or rest.
3. Will have improved wellbeing and better able to sustain their caring role.
Core Duties
4. Providing companionship and emotional support to the Service User and Carer.
5. Assisting the Service User to pursue leisure and occupational activities and providing social stimulation both within the home and outside.
6. Assisting with or undertaking personal care tasks including: Toileting needs and management of continence, hygiene and personal cleanliness, dressing and undressing.
7. Assisting the Service User with mobility in general, using Zimmer Frames, Wheelchairs or specialised equipment if necessary.
8. Preparing meals for the service user, feeding or assisting the service user to feed him or herself.
9. Specified household tasks to alleviate demands on the Carer.
