Occupational Therapist – Adult & Older Persons Community Mental Health Teams
Bournemouth and surrounding areas – this role provides a comprehensive, locality‑wide OT service within the Dorset HealthCare community mental health teams.
About the Role
The OT will work as part of an established integrated multidisciplinary team, comprising psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, speech & language therapists and social workers. The post holder undertakes specialist autonomous assessments, interventions and management of patients on an independent caseload and contributes to the overall care plan.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver specialist OT specific assessments and interventions across both adults and older persons CMHTs, using evidence‑based, client‑centred approaches.
* Conduct holistic, clinical observations and assessments, liaising with the MDT to address occupational performance and skill deficits.
* Plan, implement and evaluate interventions to restore or improve quality of life, maintain independence and embed recovery principles into practice.
* Monitor and follow up clients to support people to return and remain at home, ensuring a high‑quality person‑centred approach to care delivery.
* Provide specialist advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/service users.
* Participate in the Access Wellbeing transformation project, shaping future services and developing the delivery and scope of occupational therapy in adult mental health.
* Manage a defined caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence‑based, client‑centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
* Maintain approach that consistently considers safety, privacy and dignity of care recipients.
Location & Travel
Locality role operating across Christchurch, Southbourne and Bournemouth areas; office based at Kings Park Community Hospital. Valid driving licence required and use of a car necessary for home and community settings.
Additional Terms
This is a fixed‑term role on a secondment basis for NHS staff. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship are ineligible to apply. Please obtain permission for release on secondment before submitting an application.
