What does the role involve?
The custody suites can be an energetic place to work, with no two shifts the same. Whilst detained, we provide individuals with all their physical, mental healthcare and wellbeing needs, as well as gather any forensic samples needed by the police to aid their investigations. Making careful records on our computerised systems, you will be assessing whether people are fit to be detained or released, administering medications when needed, and working with local Liaison and Diversion teams to address root cause issues that can prevent future crime.
No previous forensic experience required; we will provide all your training.
Responsibilities
* Care for detainees in custody suites alongside the Police, delivering clinical care and safeguarding vulnerable individuals.
* Assess fitness for detention or release and administer medications when needed.
* Make accurate records on computerised systems and collaborate with Liaison and Diversion teams.
* Provide physical, mental healthcare, and wellbeing support within the custody environment.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered (Adult) Nurses / RGNs, or Paramedics with 2 years post-qualification experience; Band 5 minimum. RMN with dual registration may be considered.
* 2 years post-qualification experience in a patient-facing role within a relevant field (e.g., General Practice, A&E, Emergency Medicine, acute medicine, Walk-in Centres, Substance Misuse Services, Prison Healthcare, or Ambulance Service).
* HCPC/NMC registration required.
* Driving Licence required.
* UK resident for 3 years or more, with no gaps out of the country longer than 3 months.
* All candidates will be subject to Police Vetting.
Flexibility
You must be able to work not only in your base Custody suite but across an assigned region in the Police Custody Suites and Force area.
Compensation
What can you expect to earn? Based on shifts per month:
* £20.50 per hour for 1-2 shifts
* £22.50 per hour for 3-5 shifts
* £24.50 per hour for 6+ shifts
