Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will work alongside a range of skilled tradespeople on various aspects of metalworking, including the manufacture of balustrades, staircases, and structural steel frames. The successful applicant will gain broad, hands-on experience in metal fabrication and construction projects, developing valuable skills for life. You will learn a range of practical and professional skills, including MIG, TIG and MMA welding techniques; cutting processes such as oxy-fuel cutting, saws and grinders; reading and interpreting engineering drawings and fabrication specifications; and the fabrication of steel components including frames, staircases, balustrades and structural sections. You will also gain experience using hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery, working safely in a fabrication workshop and on site, and adhering to quality standards and inspections. In addition, you will develop strong teamwork and communication skills, build reliability, discipline and a strong work ethic, and learn to follow instructions while becoming increasingly independent as your skills progress. You must have a clear desire to become a welder / fabricator and an understanding that the role can be physically demanding at times. You should be enthusiastic, willing to learn, able to follow instructions, and capable of working well under pressure in a busy workshop environment.\nNational 4 passes in English and Maths are preferred.
