Vacancy Information

This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

In this role you will be responsible for the Web Applications developed in-house. Assessing problems, identifying and assessing technological solutions, troubleshooting and solving existing problems working with cross-functional teams.

We support around 10000 users which includes but are not limited to frontline officers, the contact centre functions, digital forensics, HR, Finance and many other areas. We have a huge variety of applications on different platforms and technologies.

Responsibilities include:

1. Daily checks
2. Supporting colleagues through an ITSM tool and adhering to SLA's
3. Adhering to the Change process
4. Documentation
5. Customer support
6. Knowledge base sharing and mentoring
7. Troubleshooting existing web applications and sites
8. Maintenance of existing web applications and sites
9. Project related tasks
10. Conversion and upgrade of legacy sites and apps using modern technologies
11. Any related management tasks that have been assigned

The role is varied and no two days are the same. It can be very high pressured at times but we have a great supportive team.

The starting salary is between £53,000 - £60,000 per annum, which includes a £15,000 per annum market rate supplement.

Skills & Experience

12. Passionate about Technology
13. Highly competent Digital, Data and Technology skills, including Microsoft tools and web-based applications including TEAMS and SharePoint.
14. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to present to groups or individuals 
15. Excellent negotiating, influencing and problem solving skills. 
16. Has the ability to plan ahead, manage and prioritise their workload and respond flexibly to rapidly changing demands 
17. To be able to produce and review complex information and documents to a high standard 
18. Previous experience in a related field
19. The ability to work well with others
20. Knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware and software.
21. Analytical thinking skills.
22. To be thorough and pay attention to detail.
23. Customer service skills.
24. Proficient in the following languages and technologies to support the existing applications and sites: IIS, MSMQ JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, HTML, ASP.NET, VB.NET, c#.NET Classic ASP (vbscript) C#, VB Transact SQL, Oracle Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server
25. Some experience in the following languages and technologies (or alternatives) for the development of new, and conversion of legacy applications and sites: Python node.js mulesoft MS PowerApps

Whilst primarily based in HQ Surrey or HQ Sussex, the post holder must be prepared to work across Surrey and Sussex and liaise with their counterparts in both forces.
