Overview
Cygnet Hospital Sheffield, Sheffield, England. Part-time Consultant Psychiatrist (2.5 days per week) will work on Pegasus Ward, a 13-bed general adolescent acute service. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, oversee the care of ward inpatients, and audit medical services to ensure high quality care in line with GMC standards and other relevant professional guidelines.
Responsibilities
* Lead on the provision of high quality care to service users admitted to Pegasus Ward
* Act as a positive role model and maintain a constructive attitude towards patients, families, visitors and staff
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
* Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users
* Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis and treatment
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits
* Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance within the service
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers’ hearings and attend hearings
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required
* Maintain patient records accurately
* Ensure regular communications with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, directors and other concerned bodies; maintain appropriate reports
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD as set out by the GMC, Department of Health and Royal College of Psychiatrists
* Contribute to the Telephone On-call rota
Qualifications
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent)
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
* Experience and knowledge in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and mental health diagnosis
* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
* Excellent communication skills; ability to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear medical notes
* Committed to continuing professional development
* Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent

What we’re looking for A candidate who is fully GMC registered and MBBS qualified, on the specialist register (CCT/CESR) or equivalent, experienced in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and a strong communicator with a commitment to CPD and teamwork.
