Overview
Tech Crew Member, Sound/Lighting - $9.50/hour. Tech Crew Team Members are responsible for supporting the technical requirements for all university functions and events by setting up and operating sound, lighting, and A/V equipment.
Position Details
* Position Title: Tech Crew Member, Sound/Lighting - $9.50/hour
* Department: Conference Services - Sound & Lighting (3036)
* Campus: Main Campus (Grantham)
* Supervisor: Spencer Rennels
* Work Period: Acad Yr 2025-26
* Hours Per Week: 10
* Duration of Appointment: Fall, Spring
* Hours Schedule: Varies based on event needs, but will include evenings and weekends
* Number of Open Positions: 6
Responsibilities
* Set-up, operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and teardown of lighting, sound, and video equipment for chapels, concerts, lectures, banquets, and other university events.
* Organization and preparation of all technical equipment.
* Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment as needed.
* Transportation of sound, lighting, and video equipment around campus.
* Maintain inventory and organization of multiple storage facilities.
* Communicate effectively with the Sound & Lighting Technician and Coordinator.
* Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Qualifications
* Major Preferred: Engineering, Communications, Computer Science, Music, Digital Media – However, all majors will be considered.
* Experience Required: Sound or Lighting Set-up and Operation; Customer Service
* Experience Preferred: Experience with digital audio consoles is helpful, but not required.
* Skills & Characteristics:
o Must be willing and able to learn how to operate and maintain sound and lighting equipment
o Must be flexible and able to take direction well
o Must work well under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations
o Independence, self-motivation, common sense, and creativity are desirable qualities for the position
* Dress Code: Close-toed shoes must be worn at all times. Employees will be advised on dress requirements for certain events.
* Special Working Conditions:
o Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
o Ability to work from heights while standing on a ladder or a lift
o Ability to work long hours including early mornings and/or late nights
o Frequent night and weekend work required
