Paediatric Occupational Therapist

The closing date is 27 July 2025

* This is a fixed term/secondment opportunity and an opportunity to develop or extend your competencies in working with children and young people (0-19 years). You will provide a high standard of Occupational service working as an autonomous practitioner delivering specialist assessment and therapeutic management of children across Northern Lincolnshire (Grimsby and Scunthorpe). To take responsibility for a caseload of children 0-19 years including those with equipment needs and within a variety of settings.
* Opportunity to take part in or lead service developments to further own and teams clinical practice to shape this service.
* To develop skills and knowledge through participation in any development programmes and competency framework


Main duties of the job

CLINICAL

1. Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients (0-19 years) including those with diverse or complex presentations or multiple pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and a range of assessment techniques including manual assessment to provide an accurate diagnosis.

2. Work within the agreed 'core offer' of service delivery and ensure that there is a focus on achieving agreed outcomes and working towards discharge right from the start of involvement.

3. To deal with emotive and stressful situations in a calm and sensitive way, using effective communication skills to establish rapport and maintain a partnership approach with children, young people and their families.

4. To demonstrate and apply a broad level of understanding of the effect of disability and recommend environmental adaptations, specialist equipment and strategies to assist.

5. Evaluate progress, reassess and alter intervention programmes as required.

6. To write reports for a range of purposes and audiences as required e.g. child protection, Education Health and Care Plan, Single Assessment.

7. Represent the Children's Therapy/ Occupational Therapy Service and/or individual patients at MDT meetings t

8. To liaise effectively with all those involved in the child or young person's care and delivery of their individual plan.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree/MSc in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Post graduate study in appropriate clinical areas e.g. MSc modules in Paediatrics
* Relevant accredited courses related to clinical areas in adult or paediatric OT


Knowledge and experience

* Post graduate experience in Occupational Therapy across a range of clinical areas (adults or paediatrics) including: Neurological, community and equipment experience
* Experience of working with at least one complex clinical pathway (adult or paediatrics)
* Experience in being part of a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team
* Post graduate experience in paediatrics
* Experience with a variety of specialised paediatric equipment


Interpersonal and communciation

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
* Motivated and enthusiastic
* Experience with working with children and families


Other

* oExperience of clinical education of students, assistants or other staff
* oAble to demonstrate good personal organisational skills
* oAbility to work from both hospital sites as required to meet the demands of the service
* Experience of leading on a project at post graduate level
