This is a leadership opportunity grounded in public service, heritage care and community connection. As Operations Manager Upper South Island, you'll provide day-to-day operational leadership for Archives New Zealand at the Christchurch site. You'll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality archival services, the safe management of repository facilities, and the implementation of regulatory responsibilities under the Public Records Act. Working closely with the Manager Archives - South Island, you'll help ensure a seamless and consistent service experience for researchers, whānau, agencies and communities across the region.
What we're looking for
We're keen to hear from operational leaders who can bring strong judgement, a collaborative mindset and a commitment to public value. Ideally, you'll bring:
* Proven experience managing operational services, people and facilities in a government, cultural or heritage context
* Sound knowledge of archival practice, records management and the Public Records Act 2005
* Experience leading frontline or technical teams through change, continuous improvement and cross-site collaboration
* Knowledge of repository and site management, including emergency preparedness and business continuity planning
* An understanding of te ao Māori and a commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi in service design and delivery
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills across diverse internal and external stakeholders
* Experience in public service delivery and a service improvement mindset
