Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of leading consultancies and delivery partners supporting the UK’s nuclear decommissioning programme. We’re seeking experienced Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil/Structural Engineers at Engineer, Senior, and Principal levels to support the design and project execution of large-scale decommissioning and infrastructure projects.
Based in Warrington with flexible hybrid working arrangements, these contract roles offer the chance to contribute to nationally significant programmes while working within multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver designs, calculations, and technical documentation in line with project requirements and industry standards
Provide engineering input across all project phases: concept, preliminary design, detailed design, installation, commissioning, and handover
Ensure compliance with nuclear safety, environmental, and quality standards
Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, method statements, and drawings
Support design substantiation and justification through analysis and engineering judgment
Collaborate with project management, safety case teams, and other engineering disciplines
Contribute to design reviews, HAZOPs, optioneering studies, and technical workshops
Support construction, installation, and commissioning activities where applicable
Mentor junior engineers (for senior/principal roles) and support knowledge sharing
Essential Skills & Experience
Background in one of the following disciplines:
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Civil/Structural Engineering
Experience delivering engineering design or project execution in highly regulated industries – ideally nuclear, defence, or energy
Understanding of relevant codes, standards, and design practices (e.g., BS, Eurocodes, IET, IMechE guidelines, etc.)
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a collaborative environment
Qualifications
Degree (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural Engineering
Chartered or working towards chartership with a recognised institution (e.g., IMechE, IET, ICE) is desirable
Security clearance (or the ability to obtain it) may be required depending on the project
