What you’ll do…

This is an exciting time to join Forestry England's Wildlife Management team. We are changing how we approach wildlife management with more volunteers and contractors supporting our professional team of wildlife rangers. You will:

* Work with teams across the organisation to develop and implement Forestry England’s Vision for Wildlife Management with a focus on volunteer lead control of squirrel, deer, mink and other species, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of volunteers and supporting the development of opportunities in this specialist area of wildlife management.
* Respond to enquiries related to squirrel and deer control volunteering and provide advice and support to teams to enhance understanding of their roles and responsibilities when managing volunteers, leading control tasks, and establishing new volunteer opportunities.
* Audit and record volunteer-led squirrel and deer control activities to ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, risk assessments, training, record keeping, and delivery of a high-quality volunteer experience.
* Support appropriate volunteer behaviour and assist with the resolution of any conflicts, encouraging respectful and timely communication between staff and volunteers involved in wildlife management.
* As your role develop we expect increased involvement in the management of a range of contracts including those for species control, survey work and larder systems.

Where you’ll work…

You will provide support across England so you should expect regular travel and some time away from home. Your reporting point will be Bellingham where a hot desk will be available. Other Forestry England locations can be considered. Home working will be available alongside regular office attendance.

Alongside your salary, Forestry England contributes an average of 28.97% towards your pension. You will become a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.

You will be asked to write a 200 word statement on your relevant experience and career history, along with a personal statement of no more than 500 words. You will be assessed on both during sifting. More details about how to apply are listed on the application form.
