We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced health care support worker to join our team at the Minor injuries unit in Brecon.

In recent years the unit has excelled in given a knowledgeable and caring service to the local community. Led by a dedicated team of Emergency nurse practitioners. The successful candidate will provide support to the trained nurses but also be able to manage their own work load in wound care.

The team provide care in all aspects of minor injuries, including fractures, strains/sprains, head injury, traumatic and post op wound closure and care, eye injuries. We also deal with emergency presentations such as chest pain or stroke.

If you have experience working within the emergency care setting as a HCSW, or are interested in this field of practice, the role will give you enormous job satisfaction and enhanced skills led by the scope of practice within MIU.


Main duties of the job

With the support you will be taking initial patient details, histories and base line observations, so good communication skills and literacy are essential.

Wound cleansing, simple wound closure(steristrips/glue), dressings.

The application of plaster of Paris, splint's and mobility aids.

The use of WPAS IT system to record patient clinical details(training will be given) good IT and keyboard skills required.

Person Specification


Qualifications and knowledge

* NVQ3 in Health or Social Care or equivalent demonstrable experience in a Health or Social Care setting
* ECDL or equivalent level of computer skills To be aware of the needs of the patients and their relatives/carers and have knowledge of voluntary and statutory services


Experience

* Working within a multidisciplinary and multi agency setting


Aptitude and abilities

* Can demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team Ability to manage stressful situations in self Ability to travel Can explain the importance of care monitoring, audit and evaluation of fundamentals of care
* Ability to speak Welsh Good time management and ability to prioritise Ability to work alone under the supervision of Clinical Lead Able to undertake extended tasks as required by the Clinical Lead
