We are seeking a highly skilled Joining Engineer to support advanced Body-in-White (BIW) structures across aluminium, steel and composite platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong expertise in welding, mechanical fastening and adhesive bonding who wants to work on innovative vehicle programmes.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and optimisation of joining methods including MIG/MAG welding, laser welding, self-piercing rivets (SPR), flow drill screws (FDS) and structural adhesives.
* Define joining specifications, parameters, quality standards and design guidelines.
* Support CAD integration of joining features using CATIA V5/V6 and GD&T principles.
* Collaborate with Materials, Manufacturing, CAE and Supplier Quality teams to deliver robust joining solutions.
* Contribute to virtual and physical validation activities such as crash, fatigue, corrosion and NVH.
* Drive root-cause analysis and continuous improvement during prototype builds, pilot phases and launch.
* Work closely with Tier-1 suppliers and joining technology partners to evaluate new solutions.
Must-Have Skills
* Strong knowledge of welding, mechanical fastening and adhesive bonding.
* Experience with aluminium, steel and composite joining challenges.
* CATIA V5/V6 familiarity and understanding of geometric tolerancing.
* Background in BIW, automotive manufacturing or vehicle structures.
* Ability to analyse joint performance and resolve failures.
Desirable
* Exposure to friction stir welding, ultrasonic welding or emerging joining technologies.
* Understanding of simulation results for joint strength, fatigue and crash behaviour.
* Awareness of ISO/AWS/OEM joining standards.
* Experience in prototype, validation or launch environments.
