We have an outstanding opportunity for a skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist expertise in Joint Surgery - Knee & Hip surgery to join our client’s award-winning team at their Private Hospital in Plymouth.
In this role, you’ll work in a purpose-built, modern surgical centre rated Good the CQC and known for exceptional clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. You’ll contribute to a service designed around clinical excellence, low infection rates, and high-quality patient care and safety. There is one ward with 30 beds at this private hospital and surgery is planned two months in advance, so you can truly have a work life balance in the knowledge your patients are getting the surgery, care and outcomes they deserve.
You will have the freedom to focus on delivering safe, evidence-based orthopaedic surgery without the distractions of acute admissions or trauma rotas, while also benefiting from a dynamic, excellent supportive and forward-thinking surgical team.

What you'll be doing:
As the Specialist Orthopaedic Hip & Knee Surgeon, you will be:
* Performing a broad range of lower limb procedures, including:
* Knee replacements
* Hip replacements
* Arthroscopies & ACL’s (anterior cruciate ligaments)
* Providing preoperative assessment, intraoperative care, and postoperative follow-up for patients
* Ensuring all treatments meet the highest standards of safety and clinical effectiveness
* Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to develop and improve clinical pathways – there are great physio teams on site to enable patient mobility
* Contributing to audit, research, and the ongoing development of the service
* Participating in appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development activities
* Taking part in on-call rota cover (with first-line provided by Resident Medical Officers)
* Supporting the training and supervision of junior clinical staff
What we’ll look for in you:
With your GMC Specialist Registration in Orthopaedic Surgery, you will also have:
* Extensive training and proven operative experience in lower limb – hip and knee surgery
* Evidence of excellent clinical outcomes and a strong commitment to patient safety
* A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working and service development
* Flexibility, objectivity, and a commitment to delivering agreed volume and productivity targets
* Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance, audit, and risk management principles
* Excellent communication skills and a patient-centred approach
* Fellowship training in hip & knee surgery – desirable
* Experience working in an independent sector surgical centre – desirable but not essential – NHS fully considered
* Evidence of teaching, presentations, or contributions to clinical research - desirable
