YHA Ennerdale are looking for a Duty Manager to support the Hostel Manager working at the unique off-grid YHA Ennerdale. Located one of the most remote and beautiful valleys in the English Lake District, YHA Ennerdale is in a remote valley with the nearest shop being 11 miles away so having own transport would be a benefit but not essential. There aren't a lot of amenities on our doorstep but we do have excellent staff internet and some supermarkets do deliver here. The position would suit someone keen to work within a small team at a small hostel set to deliver a new standard of service and hospitality. The location would suit someone interested in nature and the outdoors. There will also be some shifts working at YHA Black Sail. YHA Black Sail is only accessible on foot, and the team uses a 4x4 to access the hostel. Therefore, holding a valid driving licence will be an advantage. As a Duty Manager you’ll support the Hostel Manager with the day-to-day management of the hostel. What will you be doing as a Duty Manager? We are a friendly team and will provide the training required for you to undertake the role. However, there is plenty for you to get stuck into from day one, including: Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Using our systems for efficient guest check-ins and check-outs, food and beverage sales and service and other management functions. Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors. Assisting in the preparation of food and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride that will influence in more sales. Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence. What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Duty Manager? Our Duty Managers are responsible for the line management of the teams within their own hostels, along with the management of occasional volunteers. They are also responsible for managing the operational budget and the safeguarding of all guests. To provide this service we are looking for candidates who have: Experience of working face-to-face with customers Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service Experience of managing a team – experience of leading others, providing guidance to members of your team (desirable) Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable) Ability to manage varying pressures, include peaks in workload demands – can prioritise, able to deal with conflicting duties Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) – able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA – what YHA does and how we do it Demonstration of our HEART values – they’re part of everything we do, and we look for people who bring them to life in their everyday work For more information about the role and the skills and experience required, please refer to the job description.
