Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer (Bespoke Special-Purpose Machinery)
Location: North Norfolk (Fakenham area)
Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 per year, dependant on experience
Company Type: International Innovative Manufacturer
The Reality Check: Most design roles keep you chained to a desk, churning out minor tweaks to parts you never actually see. You feel like a small cog in a massive machine, with zero influence on how the final product actually performs.
The Opportunity: I am representing an expanding, specialist manufacturer of innovative electromechanical systems. This is a small, friendly company that deals in an international marketplace, creating customized products that solve complex handling problems.
They are a leader in their niche, providing engineering solutions to high-tech industries ranging from food processing to advanced manufacturing.
Why This Role is Different:
Concept to Completion: You will use your conceptual design skills to turn customer requirements into physical reality.
Hands-on Design: Because they manufacture on-site, you can walk out of the office and see your designs being built and tested in the workshop.
High Variety: Over 50% of the projects are customized variants of their standard range, meaning no two weeks are the same.
Technical Influence: You will have the autonomy to prioritize your own workload and lead projects from the initial drawing to the final Bill of Materials.
What You Will Be Doing:
Using Solidworks 3D CAD to develop customized variants from a standard product range.
Creating overall design and assembly drawings to define customer requirements.
Generating detailed manufacturing information and Bills of Materials (BOM).
Liaising with the Workshop Supervisor to ensure projects are fulfilled on time.
Continuous improvement of existing products to stay ahead of the market.
Who You Are:
You have a sound background in mechanical engineering, with good knowledge of mechanisms and sheet metalwork.
You can produce effective, detailed manufacturing information on time.
You are comfortable with Solidworks (or similar 3D CAD) and have a working knowledge of Machinery Standards.
You enjoy working in a small, agile team where your communication skills actually matter.
The Rewards:
Competitive Salary: £35k - £45k based on your experience.
Company Bonus: Inclusion in the company bonus scheme.
Flexible Working: Arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance.
Time Off: 20 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, with increases based on time served.
Growth: Excellent opportunities for professional development within a friendly, expanding team.
