What's involved with this role: Senior Legal Officer Job Ref: Luton 123860 Pay Rate: £25 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours This opening assignment is for 12 months On site Summary of what the candidate must have to apply : Strong experience handling Right to Buy and residential conveyancing matters. Solid understanding of Part V Housing Act 1985 and the Right to Buy scheme. Proven background working in a legal environment, ideally property-focused. Law degree or equivalent with Graduate Diploma in Law. High accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage a heavy caseload under pressure. The role: You will support the in-house Legal Services team by managing a high-volume caseload of Right to Buy matters. You will progress cases from instruction through to completion, ensuring statutory requirements are met throughout and that deadlines are achieved. The post also includes providing administrative and legal support to the wider Property, Planning and Contracts team. Key accountabilities: Progress allocated Right to Buy cases, serving statutory notices and completing all associated legal work. Draft, prepare and manage legal documentation, including all post-completion formalities. Handle small freehold land disposals, including enquiries and drafting. Investigate title issues, prepare title reports, and advise on any issues preventing disposal. Liaise with internal departments, solicitors, buyers, and external parties to progress matters efficiently. Maintain compliance with legislation, ethics, and procedural standards. Conduct research and stay updated on relevant law and policy affecting Right to Buy sales. Requirements/key criteria: In-depth experience in Right to Buy and residential conveyancing. Strong knowledge of English land law and conveyancing procedures. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Ability to manage deadlines, prioritise workload, and work both independently and within a team. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Confident using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to research and adapt to new legal areas as required. Desirable: Previous Local Government or Housing Association experience. Experience with residential development matters.
