About SSTL:
Considered the pioneers of the small satellite market, and with a heritage that spans over 40 years, SSTL prides itself in continual innovation and improvement of space technologies, products, and services, as well as in delivering space missions for a broad array of applications, like high-resolution Earth Imaging, communications (including from the moon), science and navigation. Since 1981, SSTL has built and launched over 70 satellites, including 7 constellations, and has 8+ further satellites and payloads under contract. From the earliest study activities to the subsystem manufacturing, to the assembly and test, to in-orbit operations, the whole spacecraft lifecycle is managed from SSTL's Guildford headquarters.
The Role:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team. This role involves programming, setting, and operating 3 and 5-axis CNC machines, as well as manual machining. You will play a key role in the precision machining of composite and metallic structures and components, contributing to the production of innovative spacecraft systems and sub-systems. If you have a strong background in CNC machining and are eager to work within a small, friendly, and fun team, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Tasks
* Working within the Composites Manufacturing team and liaising closely with the Design Office you will have the opportunity to play a part in delivering high quality components to tight deadlines for flight assembly and integration.
* The manufacturing of high precision Composite (Carbon and Metallic) components using 3 and 5-axis CNC Milling Machine.
* CNC off-line programming using Autodesk Power Mill and Feature Cam CAD/CAM software tools.
* Liaise with Project Engineers and other Engineering Teams to ensure deadlines and specifications are achieved.
* Attend engineering Peer Reviews to ensure design for manufacture methodology observed.
* Attend regular team meetings.
* There will be occasions when Manual Machining operations will need to be performed.
* Other activities as delegated by Manufacturing Team Leader.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
* City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering or having undertaken a recognised Apprenticeship with relevant certificates.
Experience
* Ideally from a machining or similar background.
* Experience of machining components in a High Precision, High Value, and Low Volume environment, ideally Aerospace.
* CNC Off-Line Programming using Solid Works, Autodesk Power Mill and Feature Cam CAD/CAM software tools preferred, but not essential, as training will be provided.
Knowledge & Skills
* Flexible and enthusiastic with a can-do approach.
* Problem solver.
* Capable of working from Engineering Drawings and Solid Works models to High Standards and Close Tolerances, attention to detail is essential
* Good communication skills working within a small team.
