The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Manchester, Newcastle, or Sheffield, with shared office space and remote working options. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across this region.
Our Structures Team is involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering projects in Scotland, with project values exceeding £1bn.
Amey manages the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively, each extending up to 12 years. We also undertake a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and civil design projects across the UK.

The Role
Our Lead Bridge Engineers play a key role within the Design team, working alongside Transport Scotland. As a Lead Senior Engineer, you will support your Design Team Leader, lead projects, and mentor junior staff.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions compliant with standards and client requirements.
* Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation for quality, cost, and schedule.
* Overseeing junior staff and taking responsibility for their work.
* Managing project budgets and costs to ensure commercial success.
* Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
* Contributing to bids and work-winning activities.
* Promoting health and safety practices within the team.
What You Will Bring
* Experience and expertise in civil engineering, likely from a Senior Engineer role or similar.
* Ability to produce compliant, high-quality engineering solutions independently and supervise others.
* Experience with health, safety, and welfare management, including relevant regulations.
* Ability to act as main engineering contact, e.g., CRE for Network Rail schemes.
* Knowledge of design and specification processes, with the ability to review designs.
* Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools.
* Understanding of CDM and risk assessments, with experience in hazard management.
* Capability to act as Principal Designer where appropriate.
* People management skills, including managing a medium-sized technical team.
* Incorporated or Chartered status, or equivalent, is desirable and may be essential for certain contracts.
