As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people. You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call. What it's like to work here Reporting to the Lead Ranger, you'll be delivering practical Conservation work at Sutton Hoo and our other sites across the portfolio on the Suffolk & Essex Coast. You'll work as part of the property Duty Management team, including weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rota basis. You'll be responsible on the day for the smooth running of the property during opening hours, acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint. What you'll be doing As a part of the S&E Coast portfolio Ranger team, you'll be delivering a program of practical work and visitor management, surveying & monitoring of species, and working alongside our teams of volunteers. Responsible for day to day practical and technical management of a countryside property, including equipment maintenance, habitat management, ecological monitoring, visitor experience and site presentation. As part of a small Ranger team supporting our Strategic “Restoring Nature” focus, you'll be adaptable and willing to step in to help across the property as well as the wider portfolio. You’ll build and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, Volunteers, contractors and partners. You’ll be responsible for helping with excellent communication of our conservation work to a wide range of audiences, both new and existing, through events, guided walks and engagement with local communities. Due to the location of Orford Ness you'll also need to be comfortable working on/near water and be happy to train towards RYA Powerboat 2 qualifications (if not already held).
