Payroll & Bookkeeping Assistant
Location: York (City Centre) - Hybrid working (2 days from home)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm with an hour for lunch (35 hour week)
Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, overtime pay, well-established and supportive team.
We are partnering with a well-established accountancy practice to recruit a Payroll & Bookkeeping Administrator. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in practice who enjoys a varied role covering both payroll and bookkeeping.
Due to the office location, we are particularly looking for candidates who are local to York city centre or within a reasonable commute.
Key Responsibilities

Process weekly and monthly payrolls accurately.

Input hours, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
*
Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including tax and NI.
*
Maintain payroll records and produce reports as required.
*
Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
*
Keep up to date with changes in payroll legislation.
*
Reconcile bank accounts and client ledgers.
*
Process invoices and transactions accurately.
*
Submit VAT returns.
*
Assist with general bookkeeping duties across a varied client portfolio.
About You
*
Experience working in an accountancy practice is essential.
*
Strong knowledge of UK payroll procedures and compliance.
*
Confident using accountancy software such as Xero.
*
Excellent organisation and high attention to detail.
*
Able to handle sensitive information professionally and confidentially.
