The Emergency Department at Whipps Cross Hospital is excited to have an opportunity to expand our medical workforce. We are a cohesive and friendly department seeking ST3+ doctors with NHS experience, skilled in making senior-level decisions in Emergency Medicine to join us.
These posts are suitable for candidates looking to expand their clinical skills and experience. Previous doctors in these roles have successfully entered training programs in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, and Acute Medicine. The posts are initially for 12 months with the possibility of extension.
You will join a well-supported Emergency Department with a focus on education and training, gaining exposure to diverse pathologies reflecting the local population. Whipps Cross Hospital is renowned for specialist services including urology, ENT, ophthalmology, cardiology, colorectal surgery, cancer care, and stroke care, and is the Frailty Centre for the Trust.
There are opportunities for career development, including a dedicated weekly middle-grade teaching program.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a solid medical background with Emergency Medicine experience, capable of diagnosing, treating, and managing emergency patients. Responsibilities include performing procedures such as anterior nasal packing, BIPAP, CPAP, chest drain insertion, joint reduction, external pacing, femoral line insertion, fracture reduction, intraosseous access, intubation during cardiac arrest, ultrasound identification, and pharmacological sedation, among others. Supervision and further training will be provided where necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Provide clinical care ensuring patient safety and best practice
* Support junior staff as a senior doctor in the ED
* Be the most senior registrar after 10 PM, with consultant advice available by phone
* Collaborate with nursing and allied health staff to deliver quality care
* Work under the guidance of ED consultants and seek advice as needed
* Operate in designated ED areas including RAT, resuscitation, majors, minors, and paediatrics
* Maintain own CPD and address learning needs as per directives
* Diagnose, resuscitate, and treat emergency patients, including self-referred and ambulance cases

Qualifications and knowledge
* MB ChB or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Full MRCEM or equivalent
* MRCP
* MRCS
Experience and Skills
* Relevant hospital experience at SHO level or above, with at least 12 months in Emergency Medicine
* Understanding of ALS/ATLS/APLS principles
Personal and people development
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
Communication
* Commitment to quality care
* Organizational skills for CPD
* Enthusiasm for teaching junior doctors, medical students, and nurses
* Involvement in clinical audit
* IELTS score of 7.5 or above
