National Inherited Cardiac Conditions Co‑ordinator

This role, funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), provides operational leadership for the roll out of the NHS Coronial Sudden Unexpected Death and Sudden Cardiac Arrest pathways across England.
The successful candidate will be hosted at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will work closely with the clinical lead for the programme, Professor Elijah Behr, as well as with the established BHF programme management team and Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) clinical leads.
This is a fixed‑term post for 18 months (until October 2027); ongoing funding streams will be explored. The role will coordinate effective pathways across England by working with regional ICC coordinators, the coronial system, national charities and other clinicians (cardiac and intensive care teams, genetic consultants, nurses and genetic counsellors).
Job responsibilities
This position will be based at St George's and will travel across the country in person and remotely to support teams in achieving programme aims.
Main duties
This is an amazing opportunity to support a nationwide team working to improve care for patients and families who have lost someone to sudden cardiac death.
* Establish consistent pathology referral practice for SUD, including use of expert pathology.
* Establish routine tissue retention for histopathology and DNA extraction in suitable SUD cases.
* Establish coronial and NHS communication pathways for referrals of families for genetic testing and clinical evaluation.
* Establish mechanisms for standardised post‑mortem genetic testing and reporting via NHS Genomic Laboratory Hubs to support timely evaluation and cascade testing of families.
* Develop and disseminate nationally applicable best‑practice pathways for NHS adoption, employing a toolkit approach.
* Ensure the engagement and input of patient and support groups with an interest in inherited cardiac disorders.
Qualifications & Training
* Registered Nurse or Registered Genetic Counsellor
* Educated to master’s level in an appropriate field
* Evidence of relevant managerial experience within a clinical environment, understanding and managing clinical risk/governance issues
* Genetic counselling qualification
* Advanced communication course
* Completion of project management training
Experience
* Extensive experience working as an ICC nurse or genetic counsellor with an interest in cardiac genetics
* Significant experience in genetic counselling and delivery of genetic result outcomes
* Clinical and operational management experience
* Project management
* Experience managing/supporting teams across multiple locations
