Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
We have a great opportunity at MYTT to welcome a new band 6 SLT in to our community service via our band 5-6 development framework. Our Community Adult Speech & Language Therapy Team offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and rewarding caseload, shape community practice, and be part of a supportive team that prioritises your ideas, your wellbeing, and your development.

This is a career enhancing opportunity for an experienced, suitably qualified, skilled and dynamic SLT to work across the Wakefield and district community, delivering high quality care for adults with communication and swallowing needs. The post holder is required to be an autonomous and motivated individual who is keen to further their skills and development through self-led learning and reflection.
You will work across a range of settings including patients homes, nursing and residential care, and outpatient clinics. You will manage a varied, clinically rewarding caseload, including stroke, brain injury, progressive neurological conditions, dementia, and respiratory presentations. You will join a skilled and welcoming team who are passionate about delivering excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role include:
The post holder will work across the Wakefield and district community to provide a high-quality service for our patients who have swallow and communication difficulties. Therefore effective independent caseload management skills, experience and knowledge in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with stroke, brain injury, progressive neuro, dementia, and respiratory presentations etc. are required.
The post holder will engage with huddles and regular clinical and service meetings to optimise patient care.
The post holder will develop their leadership, professional and specialist clinical skills and knowledge through a supported and structured framework with a view to converting to full band 6 SLT duties within 6-11 months.
Our band 6 SLT colleagues' role include clinical prioritisation and caseload oversight, finding solutions and identifying areas for improvement, providing specialist level clinical advice and guidance to colleagues and the MDT, supervising and supporting junior colleagues and students and leading with or contributing to service developments, SOPs and audits, plus developing and providing Trust wide training.
All SLT colleagues in the team receive regular supervision.

Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
* Licence to practice
* Evidence of successful completion of relevant short courses in e.g. dysphagia and in acquired disorders of communication
* Registration with The Health Care Professions Council
* Completion of RCSLT Newly Qualified competencies and certificate
