About the Role
My client is a forward-thinking power engineering services provider working on major infrastructure developments across the UK. From embedded generation to battery storage and hydrogen-based energy solutions, they support a diverse client base including DNOs, the NHS, airports, and private commercial operations.
They are now looking for a commercially astute Commercial Manager to take a lead role in pre-construction activities, ensuring commercial and contractual rigour across project bids, feasibility studies, and early-stage cost planning.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation of tender and contract documentation for civil and electrical engineering works
Manage monthly and quarterly cost analysis, bills of quantities, and client requirement definitions alongside project and design teams
Provide high-level commercial guidance to pre-contract teams, ensuring cost plans and budgets are robust and consistent
Oversee contract selection, administration, and variation control
Work collaboratively with delivery teams to ensure accurate project scoping and documentation
Forecast and manage project spend under NEC professional services contracts
Guide internal stakeholders through commercial gateways and risk assessments
Evaluate supply chain tenders and contribute to procurement strategies
Continuously improve commercial processes to align with business goals
Manage a team of Estimators and/or Junior Quantity Surveyors
Ensure adherence to internal control measures, health and safety, and customer service standards
About You
You will bring a combination of strong analytical skills, contractual expertise, and utility-sector experience, ideally with a background in NEC4 and ECC contracts.
Essential experience working within NEC 4 PFC and ECC contracts
Utility or electrical quantity surveying experience
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to analyse tender documentation and highlight risks or ambiguities
Proven track record managing high-value, multi-disciplinary projects
Experience with framework contracts
Degree in Quantity Surveying or Engineering (minimum five years post-graduate experience)
RICS chartered status preferable (or working towards equivalent professional qualification)
