Site Engineer – Freelance – Major Pipeline Project – Peterborough
The Role
RTL Group are seeking a site engineer for a leading civil engineering contractor to work on a major pipeline infrastructure project near Peterborough. This freelance role offers long-term contract security on a technically demanding scheme involving pipeline installation and civils works.
You will work under the Senior Site Engineer to deliver setting out, quality assurance, and day-to-day site engineering duties to ensure the project runs smoothly and meets design requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with setting out and survey checks using GPS and total station equipment

Monitor compliance with design drawings, specifications, and quality standards
*
Prepare and maintain site records, daily reports, and progress logs
*
Support the preparation of method statements, risk assessments, and ITPs
*
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and site management teams
*
Assist in resolving technical queries and site issues promptly
*
Promote health and safety compliance on site
Requirements
*
Relevant civil engineering qualification (HNC, HND, or degree preferred)
*
Minimum 2-4 years’ site engineering experience, preferably in civils or utilities
*
Competent with GPS setting out, AutoCAD, and quality assurance procedures
*
CSCS card (essential), SMSTS desirable
*
Strong communication skills and a proactive approach
*
Ability to work under direction but also manage tasks independently
