Role purpose
The primary role of the post holder is to enforce Building Regulations. You will supervise buildings within and across the borough. The post holder will be flexible and adaptable to respond to the fast-changing needs of the service.
Responsibilities
* Carry out building control duties within a prescribed geographical area.
* Negotiate and advise developers, applicants, and other interested parties.
* Keep up to date with changes in legislation.
* Carry out plan appraisals to ensure compliance with building regulations.
* Liaise with architects, agents, contractors, and builders as required.
Qualifications and experience
* Experience of conducting plan checks and onsite inspections; effective communicator with developed IT skills; good attention to detail; able to organise and prioritise workload.
* Knowledge of building regulations and allied legislation.
* Knowledge and experience of the Building Act 1984, associated Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022.
* Recognised qualification in the building control field and membership of a professional association or working towards full membership.
* Essential hold a minimum registration with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) of a 2A (Domestic) Registered Building Inspector, working towards 2 B and above.
* Extensive building control experience with ability to work unsupervised in line with policies, knowing when to seek expert help.
* Experience working within the LABC QMS systems and the Operational Standard rules for Building Control.
