Trainee Transport Planner
Menzies Distribution Solutions is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us as a Trainee Transport Planner in Wakefield. The role involves training on how to transport plan for a busy 3PL company, primarily working with Class 1 vehicles, using various systems. The goal is to ensure timely and complete delivery of customer products in a cost-effective manner, maximizing fleet and driver utilization while complying with transport legislation and health & safety standards.

* Salary: £29,000 per annum / £13.27 per hour
* Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 days off
* Hours: 06:00-18:00
* Monthly pay

Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Plan customer deliveries using available software to meet delivery windows.
* Communicate with drivers and customers regarding delays or issues.
* Develop backhaul lanes with depots and third-party customers to optimize fleet utilization.
* Source local agency drivers and subcontractors as needed, providing clear briefs.
* Complete late load reports in line with operational deadlines.
* Ensure loads meet safety standards.
* Manage drivers' start times and pre-brief/ de-brief drivers.
* Manage WTD compliance and analyze driver card data.
* Ensure adherence to transport legislation and WTD regulations, reducing tachograph infringements.
* Conduct meetings, reviews, and assessments, including probation and return-to-work interviews.
* Maintain compliance with agency driver checklists.
* Coordinate routes with other depots and record trailer information.
* Administer shift files and understand departmental KPIs.
* Perform other transport office duties as required.
Experience and Qualifications
* Experience in a busy transport office environment.
* Knowledge of drivers' hours, tachograph, and WTD legislation.
* Understanding of continuous improvement processes.
* Good educational background and IT literacy.
* Knowledge of health & safety and transport systems.
