Job title: IAG Transition Key Worker

Salary: SO1 £34,434 - £36,363

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Location: The Reginald Centre with hybrid working.

As an IAG Transition Key Worker, you will thrive on supporting NEET young people NEET to overcome barriers and progress positively.

About you

As an IAG Transition Key Worker, you will bring to the role:

1. Strong ability to deliver impartial careers information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) to help young people understand and navigate post‑16 options.
2. Skilled at building positive, supportive relationships with young people, including assessing their needs, identifying barriers, and helping them work towards their aspirations.
3. Competent in tracking, monitoring and recording progress, following required standards (e.g., NCCIS), and contributing to performance targets.
4. Collaborative and partnership‑focused, able to work effectively with colleagues, partners, and external agencies, using a restorative practice approach and maintaining safeguarding responsibilities.
5. Committed to professional development and supporting others, acting as a mentor/role model while continuously improving their own practice and contributing to the service’s wider aims.

About the role 

Leeds Pathways Support Team works with young people who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), helping them overcome barriers and re‑engage with education, employment (with training), or further training opportunities. We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a Transitions Key Worker.

In this role, you will work directly with young people who are NEET, providing impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) to support their progression into Education, Employment (with training) or Training (EET). You will help them understand their post‑16 options and make informed decisions about their future.

You will build positive, professional relationships with young people, identifying their needs, aspirations and barriers through tailored one‑to‑one support.

The role also involves accurately tracking and recording progress, working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners. You will contribute to team performance, uphold strong safeguarding standards, and engage in meetings, training and ongoing professional development.

This is a hybrid role with a mix of community‑based work and office time. Your main office base will be The Reginald Centre, Leeds.

Job Description

Job Purpose: Support young people who are NEET and work in line with Children’s Services strategic plan and priorities.

Responsibilities:

11. Provide initial, impartial, careers education information advice and guidance to young people about all of their post 16 options so they can make informed decisions about their futures.
12. Work directly with young people to develop and maintain relationships to help identify their starting points, needs and aspirations
13. Carry out initial assessments to identify barriers young people face to support them to meet their aspirations
14. Provide initial, impartial careers education information advice and guidance (CEIAG) to young people about all their post 16 options so they can make informed decisions about their future
15. Deliver initial CEIAG services from locations across the city as required
16. Track, monitor, record, review and report on the progress of clients and record information in line with NCCIS user rules
17. Explore partnerships and develop these to improve outcomes for young people
18. Support the Advanced Practitioner and Team Leader in ensuring that performance targets are achieved
19. Act as a mentor, coach and role model for other practitioners in order to help develop and broaden their professional work practice
20. Manage relationships to ensure effective working with all appropriate services and partners
21. Use a Restorative Practice approach as an overarching ethos
22. Be proactive in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children & Young People
23. Maintain effective relationships with staff at all levels within the Directorate, other Council Directorates, Elected Members, external agencies and the general public.
24. Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and development programmes.
25. Work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
26. Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.

Qualifications Level 4 IAG qualification or able to demonstrate equivalent qualification and experience

Essential requirements. It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria. Candidates will only be shortlisted if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.

28. Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including internal and external partners, agencies and local providers
29. Able and willing to have a flexible approach to meet the changing demands of the Service
30. Able to work effectively as part of a team and to demonstrate organisational and time management skills prioritising own and team’s work to meet conflicting deadlines
31. Able to audit young people’s needs and plan and deliver the work through their existing professional support
32. Able to empower young people to tackle problems, take appropriate actions and become active citizens
33. Able to work effectively with young people and secure their commitment to achieving learning outcomes
34. Able to use interview skills in making effective initial assessments
35. Able to work with young people to safeguard their welfare
36. Able to publicise and market the work.
37. Able to travel throughout Leeds City Council boundaries and move location within the service working at different sites /areas depending on need.
38. Able to lead on responding to immediate health & safety issues
39. Knowledge and understanding of the issues which concern young people today
40. Knowledge of child protection and welfare issues
41. Knowledge of local and national policies and their relationship to Youth Work
42. Knowledge of Health & Safety issues affecting all activities within the posts remit
43. Working knowledge and understanding of Outcome Based Accountability (OBA),
44. Knowledge of restorative practice and Child Friendly City priorities
45. Experience of working with young people in a diverse range of youth work or related environments
46. Experience of enabling young people to explore their values and self-respect
47. Experience of involving young people in the decision-making process
48. Experience of effectively planning work with young people linked to Children’s Services priorities and youth service targets
49. Experience of effectively recording, evaluating work and producing reports within specific timescales
50. Experience of developing positive links/partnerships with voluntary sector, community and other agencies
