Job summary

Cognus Therapies is asupportive and dynamic team of speech and language therapists, occupationaltherapists, teachers, practitioners and senior therapy assistants who supportchildren and young people in schools, colleges, bases and specialist provisionswithin the London Borough of Sutton and surrounding boroughs. We work withchildren and young people aged 4 to 25 years of age, across Primary, Secondaryand Post-16 provisions. It is a great opportunity to join a team and developexciting projects to innovate and undertake new ways of working. CognusTherapies offers multiple opportunities for CPD and provides a robustsupervision framework.

We are seeking to recruit aBand 7 Clinical Lead for Deafness in the London Borough of Sutton. This is anexciting opportunity for collaborative work with other professionals, includingspeech and language therapists, occupational therapists, assistants, teachingstaff, teachers of the deaf, a deaf tutor as well as local parent groups, todesign and deliver innovative therapy interventions following evidence-basedpractice to support pupils needs as well as work on aspects of servicedevelopments for the whole service.

This post will require youto work in our two deaf bases within the local area (one primary, and onesecondary), a minimum of two days per week and will include deliveringadditional mainstream contacts as well as outreach work to deaf children andyoung people in different settings in the local area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will beexpected to complete 1 day of service development and then 4 days of clinicalwork across our educational settings.

All applicants are requiredto hold a registration with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) andthe Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

JOB SUMMARY

* Totake the lead role in the overseeing speech and language therapy support forpupils within own clinical area of specialism.

Duties to include:

* Developing strong working relationships withHead Teachers and SENDCos and staff in assigned educational establishments aswell as key stakeholders.
* Developing strong working relationships with theHearing and Vision Education Service (HaVES).
* Deal with any problems which may arise in orderto maintain good working relationships.
* Coordinate the speech and language therapy teamprovision within the assigned establishment/s including arranging appropriatetherapy packages, deciding length of input and discharge arrangements.
* Tolead on training of teachers and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to enablethem to deliver carry-over work, embed therapyand to raise the profileof speech and language therapy needs in the context of wider trainingwhen appropriate.
* Maintain effective and proactive workingwith partner agencies to enable transition andsupport for specific pupils.
* To supportsupervisees to transition and develop a tiered Universal, Targeted andSpecialist model of therapies delivery in the local area.
* Work and liaise with stakeholders and the team to achieve nationaland local targets/ outcomes.
* Take responsibility for the embeddingof legislative change and key developmentsrelating to improved outcomes for pupils with SLCN.
* Participatein the evaluation of the effectiveness of intervention and models of service delivery,maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant clinical practice and research within the area of specialism and making recommendations on proceduralimprovements to enhance team performance.
* To be accountable for the achievingof clearly specified and measurable progressfor pupils within these establishments and to provide outcome data.
* Work with CognusOccupational Therapists to provide a jointworking approach.
* To provideclinical supervision to students and other staff working in own specialist area in line with CognusTherapies supervision policy.
* To completeclinical audits to review and monitor qualityof practice of supervisees.
* Contribute to multi-agency meetingsand Annual Reviews,including tribunals as andwhen required.
* Participate in department in-service training. To pursuean active programme of continuing professional development including feedback on anycourses or conferences attended
* To meet regularly with clinical and managerial supervisor for CPD, performance management and clinical andservice development.
Maintain own caseload to include:

* Maintain full, accurate and timely recordsincluding case notes and reports, and ensure that these are delivered withinagreed service standards.
* Preparation and delivery of individual therapyprogrammes based on initial assessment and current evidence-based practice
* Evaluation and recording of pupil progress andmaintaining of records to the requirements of Cognus Limited
* To facilitate appropriate management of caseloadincluding negotiating appropriate therapy packages, length of input anddischarge arrangements.
