Are you looking for a new challenge or career step?

An opportunity has arisen to join the Surgical Dietetic Team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as a Band 6 Dietitian specialising in surgery and critical care. This post is based at York Hospital and will involve working across both York and Scarborough hospitals.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Dietitian, with experience of working within UK health care systems, to support our Surgery and Critical Care dietetic services.

Main duties of the job

The surgery/critical care Dietitians deliver a comprehensive service to patients in a wide area of clinical specialities, including;

1. Post-surgery
2. Patients on a bariatric surgical pathway
3. Critical care
4. Acute pancreatitis
5. Intestinal failure
6. Patients on a head and neck cancer pathway
7. Patients on an upper-gastrointestinal cancer pathway

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate relevant skills and experience in oral, enteral and parenteral nutritional support. Training will be provided as required to support the assessment and treatment of patients on particular surgical/critical care pathways.

The department places a strong emphasis on clinical supervision, training and education, including:

8. peer support and supervision
9. well established programme facilitating the training of dietetic students
10. delivery of a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust, relating to nutritional care
11. opportunities to participate in audit and research

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

20. HCPC Registered Dietitian
21. Evidence of relevant CPD activities

Desirable criteria

22. Evidence of post graduate training within specialist area
23. Practice placement supervisor qualification

Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential criteria

24. Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision
25. Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations
26. Experience in delivering clinical treatment within specialist area

Desirable criteria

27. Experience in the use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment
28. Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
29. Delivery of relevant audit/research projects

Skills & Attributes

30. Ability to organise and prioritise
31. Ability to work as an effective member of multidisciplinary team
32. Ability to present information, written and verbally in a clear and logical manner

Desirable criteria

33. Ability to use different communication methods and styles, relevant to specialty
