Trainee Technician - Survival Equipment

Compensation: £26,208 with incremental increases throughout training + Benefits

The role

As a Trainee Technician - Survival Equipment, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be part of a specialist team maintaining and repairing critical survival equipment for aircrew operating in demanding environments. This is a hands‑on, highly skilled role where you’ll be trained to work on everything from protective flying helmets and night vision devices to life preservers and fire‑retardant clothing.

Day‑to‑day you will be:

* Maintaining, modifying and repairing survival and aircrew equipment to Military Aviation Authority standards
* Working with equipment such as helmets, harnesses, night vision goggles and life jackets
* Diagnosing faults and ensuring equipment is safe and operational
* Collaborating with a close‑knit team
* Learning and applying engineering principles in a practical, real‑world setting

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

This role is full time, 40 hours per week (08:00am – 17:00pm) and is based on site at RAF Shawbury.


Essential experience

* Demonstrating excellent planning, organisational and communication skills.

* Bringing a hands‑on approach and enthusiasm for engineering.


Qualifications

* Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 in English Language and Mathematics.
* Eyesight correctable to 6/6 standard.
* A methodical mindset and passion for practical work.
* Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.


Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. However, the successful candidate is eligible to start on Standard (BPSS) security check.
