Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a mixed caseload of both new patients and inheritance of some existing follow up patients across a broad spectrum of rheumatology, with a focus on connective tissue disease and vasculitis. Responsibilities include:
* Participation in the connective tissue diseases and vasculitis team and our Inflammatory Arthritis Service, including the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit.
* Provision of long‑term care to an existing cohort of patients and management of new referrals.
* Contribution to multidisciplinary team meetings for inflammatory arthritis, AxSpA, metabolic bone, radiology, histopathology and local/regional connective tissue disease MDT meetings.
* Supervision and training of junior doctors, clinical nurse specialists, clinical pharmacists and allied health professionals.
* Ensuring best practice in the rheumatology service, including setting up regular audit and quality improvement cycles.
* Supporting specialised commissioned services, regional advice provision and involvement in teaching across the medical undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
* Participation in a consultant non‑resident on‑call rota for rheumatology and conducting ward rounds with on‑call registrar on Saturdays and Sundays when on call.

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential
* Primary Medical Qualification
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC)
Desirable
* Special skills training in the specialty
* Evidence of participation in clinical trials at sub‑PI and PI level
* Higher Degree
* GCP certification
Clinical Experience
Essential
* Evidence of experience in the specialty
* Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
* Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality
* Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre
Desirable
