Mechanical Engineer SME - Flexible (with travel to NWE Terminal and Pipeline Network locations)
About the role
We seek a Mechanical Engineer who is flexible (with travel) and reports to the Staff Mechanical Engineer. This role is the focal point for projects and stakeholders, ensuring mechanical equipment and piping specifications meet technical standards, and involves modifying, improving, and optimizing existing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage all mechanical equipment scope, including valves, piping, and rotating machinery.
* Apply appropriate engineering codes and standards, managing deviations.
* Ensure design projects and reports are compliant and of high quality, with regular design reviews.
* Specify, design, and ensure safe operation of oil, gas, and chemical storage and transportation equipment, including tanks, pressure vessels, piping, pumps, jetty systems, and boilers.
* Assure correct application of the MOC process to the UK & Ireland Engineering Manager.
* Participate in hazard analysis studies (HAZIDs, HAZOPs) and FMEA studies.
* Maintain knowledge of regulations and directives: DSEAR (ATEX), PER (PED), Machinery Directive, PUWER, COMAH, CDM.
* Familiarity with API, EN, EEMUA, and ASME standards.
* Experience working in MAH environments.
* Member of the Operational Duty Manager rota.
* Follow safety standards and procedures for critical tasks, ensuring compliance with COMAH; ongoing competency assessments are required.
About You
You should have a relevant Mechanical Engineering degree or significant project experience, with extensive mechanical design experience, including specification and site commissioning of tanks, valves, piping, and troubleshooting. Experience with tank inspection and repair, LPG storage, and working in a COMAH industry is essential. Knowledge of current legislation (DSEAR, PER, Machinery Directive, PUWER) and standards (API, EN, EEMUA, ASME) is required. You should be innovative, a team player, an effective communicator, and hold a full driving license. Ability to write detailed reports is also necessary.
