Applications are invited for a Consultant Breast Radiologist with screening accreditation. This is a part‑time post, and the successful candidate will cover all aspects of symptomatic breast imaging services. This includes breast one‑stop clinics, breast/axillary ultrasounds, wire/mag‑seed localisations, Breast MRI, VAB and actively participate in Breast MDT.
As the post involves dealing with Hereford screening patients after their preliminary assessments in Worcester, breast screening accreditation is essential for the role.
The successful candidate will join the existing establishment of 22 Consultant Radiologists in providing a comprehensive Radiology service to the population of Herefordshire Health District plus a catchment population from mid Wales and referrals from parts of surrounding counties of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gwent (total population 230,000).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to have broad breast radiology experience.
* Support one‑stop symptomatic clinics and attend weekly Breast MDT.
* Support breast ultrasound and breast imaging interventional procedures including axillary core biopsies.
* Report breast MRIs and have experience in VAB.
* Must be breast screening accredited to support Hereford screeners.
* Effective communication and team‑working skills.
Wye Valley NHS Trust Hospital is a purpose‑built PFI acute District General Hospital. The imaging department opened in February 2002 and has an excellent range of equipment. Carestream Health PACS/RIS offers the Trust wide image distribution solution, and this was further upgraded during 2020 and is still ongoing. New purpose‑built community diagnostic centre opened up last year.
The job plan and proposed timetable will be organised to meet the needs of the department and will be by mutual agreement. The job plan will be for 5 programmed activities (PA's) with up to 1.5 SPA.
There are no on‑call duties required of this position.
Person Specification
Education & Qualification
* FRCR
* Full GMC Registration
* On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining Specialist Registration on date of interview
Training
* Appropriate training in Radiology
* Wide experience in all aspects of Radiology
* Experience or training in breast Radiology
Experience & Knowledge
* Practical skills commensurate with the above
* Widespread broad based knowledge in all aspects of Radiology
Management & Administrative Experience
* Clinical Audit experience
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance framework of NHS. Understanding of current changes in the management and organisational structures of NHS.
* Ability to work within these parameters.
Personal Attributes
* Ability to work in a team
* Excellent communication skills, oral and written, including the ability to communicate and interact effectively with colleagues and patients.
* Ability to see patients as people, ability to empathise and work flexibly.
