Why become a governor? Team ECC’s Board supports the College team in making a significant and lasting impact on education and the community we serve. This is an exciting time to join the Board as we have refreshed and refocused our strategy. We have several exciting projects in development, including the redevelopment of our Great Yarmouth campus. We are proud to be rated Ofsted Good across all areas with good financial health. As a Governor, you will gain valuable experience in governance and leadership while collaborating with other dedicated individuals who share a passion for education and the region.
Here are the key responsibilities:
* Strategic Oversight: Developing the college’s strategy and goals.
* Accountability: Holding the team accountable for the educational performance and quality of the college.
* Financial Stewardship: Ensuring effective control over funds and assets, maintaining solvency, and meeting legal obligations.
* Advocacy: Acting as advocates for the college within the wider community.
* Participation: Engaging in activities such as learning walks, celebrations, strategic planning, and self-assessment.
* Commitment to Values: Promoting equality, diversity, and quality standards.

What will you be doing?
About East Coast College: with campuses in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, offering a diverse range of subjects and professional training for school leavers and adults up to degree level. Governors support, challenge, and help the College achieve its strategic objectives. Board experience is not required—your skills, experience, and enthusiasm for our goals and values are what matter most. Time Commitment: Meetings are usually a couple of hours on Tuesday mornings. We have 5 Full Board meetings, 4 Committee meetings, and 1 Full Away Day each year, with a minimum attendance target of 80%. Associate Governor: If you can’t commit to a full governor role, bring your specialist knowledge to one of our committees (People, Finance, Quality) with about 4 meetings a year. Associate Governor roles are also a great path to develop as a Governor. We are particularly looking for those with experience in safeguarding, learner voice, and financial (qualified accountant). Annual Commitment: Beyond meetings, Governors participate in Learning Walks, celebrations, and meetings with staff and students. Strategic planning, self-assessment and review of the College, Corporation, yourself, and the Chair. Training sessions and reading briefing documents. Providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
