Job Overview
Our 12-month Design Placement gives university students like you the chance to work with our innovative Design team. You'll help develop comprehensive ranges that are trend-driven while delivering exceptional quality and value to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
* Real Experience: Collaborate with Product teams, using CAD software to design and develop product ranges that reflect current market trends and our core customer base.
* Make an Impact: Contribute to design briefing packs, surface patterns, and art workflows while engaging in meaningful discussions that influence future collections.

* Creative Collaboration: Collaborate with Product teams to produce design packs and artwork, utilising CAD software to create surface patterns and designs that align with current trends and Matalan’s customer preferences.
* Market Insights: Conduct benchmarking and competitor analysis to identify trends and missed opportunities, allowing you to contribute valuable insights that shape our product offerings.

Desired Qualifications
* 2nd‑year student, ideally studying Fashion, Textile, Surface Pattern Design, or any related field that requires a 12‑month placement starting July 2026.
* Retail work experience would be advantageous, but it’s not essential.
* Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of communicating clearly at all levels.
* Self‑motivated and committed to continuously developing your design skills.
* Knowledge and experience of Illustrator and Photoshop and a good understanding of Microsoft Office.
