Overview
Senior Qualitative Researcher – Design Research at Barclays.
Purpose of the role: deliver the collection and analysis of research into customer needs, experiences and interactions to support the creation of beautiful, useful, and innovative experiences and communications for our 20 million UK customers.
Responsibilities
* Deliver end‑to‑end research programmes that are synergistic with other research and analytics activities, including qualitative, quantitative, and CX tracking.
* Collaborate with Design, Product, Channel, Marketing, Transformation and Technology to brainstorm innovative design concepts and integrate research findings into all stages of the innovation cycle.
* Develop and test prototypes, mock‑ups, or value propositions to support concept development and usability feedback.
* Monitor emerging technologies, industry trends, design best practices, societal changes, and economic trends that may impact the customer landscape and influence strategic decisions.
* Use data analytics tools to extract insights from market research, customer surveys and feedback sessions to identify new opportunities.
* Manage all risk relating to the Insight process, especially Data Privacy risk, and coordinate with Chief Controls Office and Data Privacy Compliance.
* Lead and oversee research programmes, including hiring, performance management, setting departmental goals, and ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
* Lead collaborative assignments, guide team members through structured projects, and identify the need for cross‑functional expertise to meet outcomes.
* Consult on complex issues, provide advice to People Leaders, and develop new policies and procedures to support control and governance agendas.
* Communicate complex data from multiple internal and external sources, influence stakeholders, and present actionable recommendations.
Qualifications
* Experience in qualitative research, with the ability to lead and deliver end‑to‑end research projects that uncover meaningful insights.
* Strong storytelling and communication skills for distilling research data into clear recommendations for action.
* Excellent stakeholder management up to Managing Director level, with the ability to manage expectations, engage effectively, and influence decisions.
* Experience within financial services (highly valued).
* Experience using quantitative research methods (highly valued).
* Experience with Futures research methods (highly valued).
* Proficiency in risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job‑specific technical skills.
