Overview
Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Project Manager to work with Energy on the Norwich to Tilbury scheme, as part of our delivery of the Great Grid partnership (GGP).
The project is mobilising to support early works, including DCO support, ahead of site commencement mid 2027. Initially, teams will be based in the Stone Cross (Warrington) regional office with GGP support in Birmingham and client liaison in Bury St Edmunds. Once on site, teams will operate in and around Colchester and Braintree. Construction works are planned between mid 2027 and mid 2031.
Murphy supports ground-breaking transmission and distribution projects in four countries, delivering Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) projects for regulated and private customers, alongside technical and engineering solutions in conventional power and energy transition markets. We focus on innovation, sustainability, and long-standing relationships with major energy providers.
What you’ll be doing includes leading large-scale project delivery, managing multi-discipline teams, and ensuring safe, on-time, on-budget delivery in line with contract requirements.
Responsibilities
* Fully accountable for delivering projects safely, on time, to budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
* Oversee project delivery across multiple disciplines on large-scale projects.
* Set the overall standard on the project/contract and ensure requirements are identified and delivered.
* Identify and resolve issues in a controlled, timely manner; ensure contract programmes are planned, reviewed, and delivered.
* Line manage Project, Construction Site and Engineering Managers.
* Maintain effective client relationships and provide updates to internal and external stakeholders on progress.
* Ensure operating plans provide sufficient resources and materials.
* Resolve operational issues with escalation to the Project Director as needed.
* Oversee all commercial activities including delivery of gross margin, cost control, and other key metrics.
* Performance manage subcontractors in relation to gross margin and cost control.
Qualifications
* Experience delivering HV Transmission & Distribution or major civils projects.
* Experience in a Project Management role.
* HNC / HND or NVQ Level 5 (or Degree).
* Experience on complex, multi-discipline enhancement projects with programme and cost controls.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to build close working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
