Work as a team member with a flexible approach within the Facilities Department. To provide a comprehensive service to the Hospital, undertaking scheduled and unscheduled movement of patients and materials as required for the benefits of clients, staff, relatives and visitors, complying with current legislation, and any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post.

Main duties of the job
* Maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with Trust Policy.
* To aid Hospital staff, visitors and patients when faced with difficult situations caused by third parties, following Trust policies and procedures.
* Guide and direct visitors and deal with in a helpful and friendly manner, taking written notes of any relevant information
* To be able to communicate sensitive information using tact and diplomacy when dealing with deceased's family and friends.
* Take a role in any departmental Information Technology initiatives.
* Communicate daily with all users regarding any variation in service that may be required. Using judgement to prioritise as necessary in consultation with the Portering and Waste Supervisor.
* Assess how to safely transport hospital equipment and utilise appropriate manual handling techniques
* Ability to identify certain pieces of equipment when transferring from Equipment Library to Wards ie. Infusion pumps.
* Attend daily briefing meeting with the Waste and Portering Supervisor, and liaise with other Supervisors.
* Respond to the emergency Bleep for fire, medical emergency, major obstetric haemorrhage, deploying staff appropriately.
* Ability to assess Health and Risk requirements' ie manual handling and additional mechanical aids if necessary.

Person Specification
* Experience in the role of Porter or equivalent service.
* Experience in customer service awareness.
* Able to carry out full range of physical requirements of the role
* Manual handling /patient transfer competencies and techniques
