The Remediation Enforcement Unit (REU) is being set up in response to the Deputy Prime Minister’s directive for the Building Safety Regulator to lead the remediation of all Higher‑Risk Buildings (HRBs) with combustible cladding by 2029. As a new unit within the Building Safety Division Operations, the REU will identify eligible buildings, group them by accountable person (AP) and focus remediation on those without action plans.

Working hours: Part‑time hours are available. Applicants who can commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week are welcome.


Travel

You will be required to travel to other HSE hubs for team meetings and activities as business requires.


Key Responsibilities

* Proactive contact with accountable persons (APs) to monitor, discuss and expedite the submission of remediation action plans and fire risk assessments within agreed timescales and in line with the Building Safety Act 2022.
* Review and assess remediation action plans against recommendations in fire risk assessments, considering guidance and benchmarks to guide your activities.
* Continuously monitor action plans to ensure completion of remediation, including any required enforcement activity, involving regular and proactive contact with APs via phone, email and post.
* Communicate effectively at all levels to gather information, provide advice, and escalated concerns and issues within and outside the remediation enforcement unit.
* Manage your caseload and deliver activities against operating procedures.
* Share information with other regulatory authorities and government funding schemes.

Key Qualifications

* Demonstrable experience of assessing compliance to make evidence‑based recommendations against relevant frameworks and legislative standards.
* Proven experience of effective and clear written and oral communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders, including the ability to convey complex information appropriately.
* Proven organisational skills, including managing competing priorities to meet agreed deadlines and regulatory standards.
* Experience of working collaboratively to achieve common goals, deliver effective outcomes, and share knowledge and best practice with colleagues.
* A level 5 qualification or equivalent experience in regulatory compliance, fire safety, health & safety, building or facilities design, planning, construction or management.

* UK nationals.
* National of the Republic of Ireland.
* National of Commonwealth countries who have the right to work in the UK.
* National of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members with settled or pre‑settled status under the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS).
* National of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members who have made a valid application for settled or pre‑settled status under the EUSS.
* Individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain eligible to apply for EUSS on or before 31 December 2020.
* Turkish nationals, and certain family members of Turkish nationals who have accrued the right to work in the Civil Service.


Security Checks

* Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.
* People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard checks.
